I got this book a while ago for Christmas, but I didn't read it because I thought it looked insanely boring, but then I watched the trailer for this movie and it inspired me to read the book so I can watch it. I ended up LOVING the book (it sits in my "favorites" category on the home screen of this website as we speak) and when I watched the movie, I hate to admit it, but I was kind of disappointed.
This does NOT mean that it was a bad movie. I actually thought it was great in portraying the characters and the animation was wonderful and I thought that it actually contributed to the themes of the movie a lot. I just feel like the book was a little better and the movie left out some things.
Which is understandable, since a lot of movie adaptations do that same thing. But compared to the book, a lot of the emotions I felt in the book felt muted, I guess, and I feel like my opinions of such were stronger while reading the book than watching the movie.
I could technically make a book review for this, but I don't really want to do that. I think if you want to watch this movie, you HAVE to read the book first. This isn't like It or like Jurassic Park where you CAN read the book, but you don't have to. I had a much more enjoyable time reading the book, and I feel like it should definitely be read first.
That being said, this movie was still great. It was fun and I never felt bored, I guess, and the drawing style felt haunting and conveyed all the right themes.
I also don't really understand how people think that this is a "distrubing" piece of media, cuz, like, yeah, some of the scenes might be scary for young kids, but I don't think that overall the feeling I get from watching this is "disturbed", y'know?
Idk. Great movie; read the book first.
Also little PS but this media had some of the most bars ever. Like the whole beginning monologue from Frith? And like idk theres like so many more but like duuuude it was so tuff.

Am I glad I watched it?
Yes
Would I watch it again?
Probably
Would I recommend it to a friend?
Only if they've read the book

Bigwig!
Close seconds are Blackberry and Hyzenthlay, but Bigwig takes the cake just cuz of like how brave he is.
And idrk whats up w me but I REALLY like hotheaded characters for some reason (Peter Strahm from Saw IV, for example, is probably my favorite character of all time) and Bigwig is hotheaded AND brave AND does it for good! And he's lowk funny but I don't remember if I'm remembering that from the book or movie. Prolly book but idk.
Yeah idk I like him a lot... Dunno what else to say besides that all of the characters are lowk tuff, like there isn't one that I specifically have it out for, which is usually common in most media.
