Mystery; PG-13

2020

I'm going to start this off with a little bit of a memoir about me: I have come to terms that I strongly dislike the movies that try to embrace old ones in a new way.

The perfect example is this movie. The characters are great, the mystery aspect is fun as well as the plot. But I feel like it would've been terrific as a stand-alone movie, since all the characters were new except for literally one. In fact, I think it would've be better that way, because making this a part of the Sherlock Holmes universe makes it seem nearly like a fanfiction.

I mean, seriously. Enola and Sherlock have almost no correlation at all except for a mom that Sherlock probably doesn't even bring up. Why did they have to make this movie an adaptation. Could've just been a stand-alone thing.

But anyway, besides that little picky thing, this movie is actually pretty good. I love Enola as a character and I think she's very inspiring. It's funny, it's fun, and the mystery is there. Overall, it's a very entertaining movie, even if it's more positioned towards the younger kids.

Also, the costumes and sets are very good as well. It almost made me feel like I was in England at that time. Good choice of costumes and such!

So yeah. Good movie, but I'm still mad that it's an adaptation so I'm giving it a petty rating. Sorry!

lowkey i hate saying it but Enola and Tewwhatever were great for each other... Submissive man and dominant woman final boss. Literally one of my favorites.

But yeah ig that's it. The movie does a great job of distracting you from EM by adding in this Tewwhatever plot. If it didn't, the main review would know.

But yeah ig that's it...

Yes

Maybe

Would I recommend it to a friend?
Probably

Favorite Character

Enola's Mom!

I have literally no idea what her name is so her name is just going to be Enola's Mom. EM for short.

I LOVED Enola as a character. She was fun and ruthless and she was going to do whatever it takes. I admire that in a character. But I think a person all boils down into their teacher. And in this case, it's EM.

I mean, seriously. She knew so many things! Flower code, flower-number code, flower meanings, Ju-jitsu...

No but seriously, those are important things. AND she fought for what she cared about? I think that's definitely very inspiring and I do admire that greatly in a character. SHE ROCKED!!!
