Comedy/Drama; PG-13
1995

I feel like this movie is a perfect example of a feel-good indie teen movie. In many, many ways.
The vibes were there. I understood everything it was trying to tell me. The characters were literally terrific. They all had different personalities and, some more than others, I loved every one. And the hi jinx ensued and it was very entertaining and in those ways, it was a very good movie. But I feel like that's all it had.
I feel like having a job at a place like Empire Records would be perfect, which is also what it's trying to tell you. But at the same time, it runs into a world-building issue. It builds Empire Records and the characters to a great extent, which makes you care more about the characters, which while important, I could argue that it is equally as important as, maybe, making more things happen.
Yeah, there was plot. But it seemed just to be drama with a little bit of comedy from the antics and occasional one-liner. And apart from that, not much happened.
So yeah. Great characters, I think that the plot was good, but it has the indie movie issue that seemed that the creators cared too much about the characters, so the action turned out more like the characters just interacting.
And I guess that's the whole point of a drama movie, and maybe I'm not the right person to be writing this since I guess I'm not very into that genre.
Anyway, in conclusion, good movie. Good characters, good plot. Lacking a little bit of substance, but still a good watch. Would recommend.

I absolutely LOVED how Joe was kind of like a father figure to all of the employees. I thought that made me care about the movie a lot more, tbh.
Tbh I kind of would have liked it better if Corey and AJ didn't get together, since I feel like I enjoyed Corey as more of an immature character. As in, she's focused on school and had no chances for anything else, so she doesn't really know love and isn't ready for it yet.
Tbh, I thought that was the way it was going to go. But then the end of the movie happened and whatever. I liked the end a lot, actually.
Also that MnM thing in the beginning is lowkey tuff. And the veto thing. Like, if I worked in a record store, I would wanna do a similar thing.
Yeah. Now I want to work at Empire Records. Great.
Am I glad I watched it?
Yes
Would I watch it again?
Maybe?
Would I recommend it to a friend?
Yes

Mark!
SHOPLIFTER!!!!!
I usually don't like overly-weird and stupid characters, but I think this guy is an exception.
For some reason, I loved this guy!!! He was great! If Marc came to be I would be their #1 fan for sure.
Close second is Corey at the beginning, but near the middle and end she went eh. Then probably Joe is tied for second. I was expecting him to be the stereotypical annoying boss character but he was actually really great. He would def be #1 if Markypoo didn't exist.
Third might be Warren... I liked that kid a lot. He had good swag. But not as much as Mark!!!
Yeah but anyway. Love this guy!!! Also his hair and clothes are on SLEEK!!! Get it!!!
